CVS Corp., the second-biggest U.S.
drugstore chain, said that their quarterly profit increased
by 37 percent as demand for generic
drugs rose and sales gained at Eckerd locations
that the company purchased last year and remodeled.
Pharmaceutical companies are making impressive profits
as generic drugs with wider profit margins are taking
the place of branded medications. CVS and Walgreen Co.,
the largest U.S. drug retailer by sales, are benefiting
largely due to this increase in demand of generic drugs.
