Generic
Viagra more popular in India
02 February, 2006
Indians prefer generic
Viagra to the original one. A month after Pfizer
officially launched Viagra
in the Indian market, the product has, expectedly, received
a rather weak response. Two obvious reasons are the
high pricing and availability of nearly 40 generic versions
of the drug that are much cheaper.
At Rs 463 per 50 mg tablet and Rs 594 per 100 mg tablet,
Viagra in India is priced on par with its global counterpart,
and is 30 times more expensive than generic Viagra versions
manufactured by Ranbaxy, Cipla and Sun Pharmaceuticals
among a host of others. Generic Viagra such as Caverta,
Silagra and Kamagra are
more popular as compared to the original one.
