Human
trials for varied use of ED drugs

Pfizer, the manufacturer of erectile
dysfunction (ED) drug Viagra
has commenced clinical trials in India on certain new
uses of sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient found
in its blockbuster erectile dysfunction drug Viagra,
at 4 to 5 sites in India. This particular step taken
Pfizer indicates that the company may launch its Revatio
here.
Revatio is a drug which was approved by the USFDA in
June this year and it uses the same ingredient as the
ED drug Viagra, according to industry sources. Revatio
is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH),
a rare, aggressive and life-shortening vascular disease.
Multinationals who plan to launch their drug in India
have to register the drug with the Drug Controller General
of India.
