Pfizer
eyes generic biologics market
07 March, 2006
No. 1 drugmaker Pfizer Inc. said on
Tuesday that it is preparing to enter into the emerging
market of generic biotech drugs, also known as biologics.
According to Vice Chairman David Shedlarz, Pfizer will
be evaluating its biologics capacity in the second half
of the year to determine whether it will want to build
additional facilities in order to enter the generic
biologics arena.
Biologics manufacturing requires a
large amount of capacity and the company is looking
to leverage its capacity. Generic
drugs are becoming very popular nowadays as they're
equally effective but come at a much lower price. Erectile
dysfunction generic drugs such as generic
Viagra and generic Cialis are also becoming very popular nowadays due
to their efficacy and cheaper price.
