Indian
generic drug firm Ranbaxy announces joint venture

India-based generic
drug company Ranbaxy Laboratories, the maker of
erecrtile dysfunction
(ED) generic pill Caverta
has announced on Monday that it had entered a joint
venture with the South Africa-based firm Community Investment
Holdings to sell Ranbaxy's anti-retroviral drugs in
Africa.
Ranbaxy South Africa CEO Desmond Brothers said the venture
will allow the company to sell its drugs at a low cost.
Ranbaxy will hold 70% of the venture, named Sonke Pharmaceuticals,
which will sell products under the trademark "Sonke”.
Products will be available through governments, retail
pharmacists, HIV/AIDS disease management companies,
non-governmental organizations and independent community
treatment organizations in South Africa, Botswana and
Namibia.
